Learning new skills can be quite a challenge. Active learning suggests that retention of new information is based on how that information was acquired, absorbed and practiced.
One of the most efficient and comprehensive ways of retaining new knowledge is practice by doing. True learning requires the learners involvement and engagement. Learning is best through self discovery, as the learner figures things out for his or her self, tries new skills, comes up with pertinent examples.
When trying to learn new parenting skills, parents will learn best by practicing and showing bravery in attempting to change behavior. An additional challenge for parents is to be able to detach from old hat skills that may have been ineffective, before acquiring and mastering new, more-effective skills.
